At SARNZ (Scaffolding, Access, and Rigging NZ), we aim to recognise the exemplary efforts and contributions of training companies that have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the development and advancement of professionals in the scaffolding, access, and rigging industry.
The Training Company of the Year award celebrates organisations that exhibit excellence in their training programs, curriculum development, innovation, and commitment to safety standards.
We are looking for a company that not only delivers high-quality training but also fosters a culture of continuous improvement, safety consciousness, and industry leadership.
The recipient of this award will serve as a shining example of excellence and inspire others in the industry to strive for greatness.

About the award
The Trainee of the Year Award recognises individuals who have shown exceptional dedication, skill, and professionalism in their pursuit of excellence in the field of scaffolding, access, and rigging. We are seeking nominees who have demonstrated outstanding performance in their training programs, displayed a strong commitment to safety practices, exhibited exemplary technical proficiency, and shown leadership potential within their teams or organisations.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of going above and beyond expectations, continuously seeking opportunities for growth and development, and serving as an inspiration to their peers. The Trainee of the Year recipient will embody the highest standards of professionalism and serve as a role model for future generations of industry professionals.

Meet the judges
Technical expert
Damian Beausang
Damian has a career spanning over 40 years working across various areas of the scaffolding, access and rigging industry. His first 14 years began as a scaffolder.
He then became a business owner of a small scaffolding company in 1996, and expanded the business into mastclimbers in 2002. Damian further expanded his experience and business offerings by becoming a scaffolding consultant in 2008 for Mining and Oil & Gas companies. The business then grew into Engineering and Design in 2010 and Rope Access in 2018.

Susan Temple
Susan is a Chartered Professional Engineer with 30 years’ experience in the construction industry, primarily as a Temporary Works Engineer for two of NZs largest commercial contractors.
She has also been the Project Manager and Pre-Construction Engineer for multiple large and complex projects and is the Vice Chair of the Temporary Works Forum. She is currently the Lead Engineer for Temporary Works Consulting Ltd (TWC) and is responsible for designing and reviewing scaffolding structures across NZ.
Independant expert
Simon Boyes
Simon is the MD of Benchmark Scaffolding and the Founder of ScaffPlan.
He has built his career in the scaffolding industry from the ground up (literally).
Simon started working as a labourer in the scaffold yard and has worked his way through every position possible inside a scaffolding business. He has run crews of many hundred staff and managed projects worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Simon is now the Managing Director of Benchmark Scaffolding and the Founder of ScaffPlan. He is passionate about finding simple solutions to solve complex scaffolding projects.
